KIDS COMIC CON 2008

I’m on a panel this weekend at the Kids Comic Con. It’s entitled Comics in the Classroom and I’ll be talking about the project I did at Heritage High School in East Harlem.(see Teaching category) It’s an all day event and the panel I’m on is from 1:45 -2:45pm. Hope to see you there.

One the most satisfying things I’ve done recently was to lead an 8 week comics workshop with an English class of high school seniors at Heritage School in East Harlem. They used the Real Cost Of Prison comics series as a template for researching the impact of the criminal justice system on their families and community. In this process they conducted interviews, did surveys etc. and then ultimately produced a 32 page comic based on their findings. It was sponsored bt the Center for Urban Pedagogy and you can read more about it and see samples
